History of South Boston

The South Boston Speedway is a track with a tradition that goes back to 50 years! It is one of the most premier race tracks in the entire country and is also said to be the best NASCAR sanctioned short track racing in the whole country. History

The South Boston Speedway was inaugurated in 1957, in the month of August as a quarter-mile dirt track. The original owners of this racing track were the late Buck Wilkins and also the late Dave Blount. The first race was held on 10th august, 1957 and the seating capacity at that time was only 1000 bleacher seats. Now that has gone up to 8000 seats. The track was sanctioned by NASCAR in 1960 and held its first NASCAR race on the 16th of April, in 1960. In April 2000, Joe Mattioli III bought the South Boston Speedway.

Directions

From the address of 58 West, you must take a 360 East towards Richmond. From Richmond, go for an approximate distance of two miles and you will see the track on your right hand side. If you are coming from 501 North, then take 58 West this time, after that go 360 East. Similarly, the track will again be two miles away from this distance and on your right hand side.
