History of Gibson House

Gibson House was built by Charles Hammond Gibson in 1859. After that three generations lived in that house and preserved the belongings, furniture, wallpapers, paintings, sculptures, photographs etc. This became a museum and was officially opened for public in 1957. Kitchens, baths, laundry rooms, butler's pantry, scullery all are preserved since three centuries. It has blocked the time from late 18th century to early 20th century by preserving the aura. It started from Gibson, Hammond, Russell, warren and crowneinsheild families.

The Musuem usually opens all the year round except some of the days those are Thanksgiving Day, New Year's Day, Christmas and Fourth of July. Reservations are not compulsory you can just go and enjoy the Victorian era. People can go only from ground to third floor rest of the two floors are for staff and storage. The Gibson House was designed by Boston architect Edward Clarke Cabot. It was built around the same time as its sister at 135 Beacon Street during 1859-60. Located in the south side of the Beacon Street these houses stood along for almost ten years by itself. Located in the popular Back Bay district of Boston, the Gibson House museum is run by a non-profit organization. Book your Boston MA hotels and come down to the city for an excellent vacation.

When you come down to the museum you will be shown around the place only by a guided tour. The Gibson House Museum is spread across four floors of the building. You have to book from beforehand if your group has more than 12 people. The museum remains closed on New Year, 4th of July, Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day.
