Boston is the capital of the state of Massachusetts and one of the most historic, wealthy and influential cities in the USA. Its plethora of museums, and frequent live performances, gives us an idea why the city bags around 16 million visitors annually, making it one of the ten most popular tourist locations in the States.
Boston is a city of diverse neighborhoods. Most of which were towns before being joined with the city, leading to a strong sense of pride within the neighborhoods. You may hear people telling you that they are from "JP" (Jamaica Plain), "Dot" (Dorchester), South Boston, or East Boston, instead of Boston.
According to a survey, there are around 200 street names that are duplicated in one or more neighborhoods in Boston. For example, Washington Street in Downtown Boston is different from Washington Street in Dorchester and another Washington Street in Jamaica Plain.
Tourist Attractions:
- John Hancock Tower: The tallest building in New England, its outside is covered by mirror-like glasses reflecting the other buildings in its vicinity.
- USS Constitution: Launched in 1797, it is one of the oldest commissioned ships in the USA. It is docked near the Boston Museum and is a good place to visit if you are interested in knowing the city's history.
