In the 1630's, the Common was used to pasture cows. Before the Revolutionary War, it was used as a camping ground by the British. It was also used as a public hanging place until around 1817. The Common was also used throughout history as a protest place- 1713 food shortage protest and Vietnam War protests as example. Many big names in history have also made speeches in the Boston Common. Some of these speeches were from Martin Luther King Jr. and Pope John Paul II.

The Boston Common Garage can be reached from several directions with ease. No matter which direction you're driving from, you need to get in the garage through the entrance on Charles Street that is directly across from the Public Gardens.

From the Masspike - Drive along Masspike Eastbound and take the Prudential Exit. You should stay in the right lane for Copley Place. Proceed on Stuart Street and drive left to Charles Street South. After passing the first traffic light, you will turn into Charles Street. You will see Boston Common Garage on Charles Street between the Boston Common and the Public Gardens.

From the Southeast Expressway - If you are from this direction, take Exit 20 toward 1-90 for Airport & South Station. You can take a left heading for South Station. When coming to the traffic light, you need to turn left onto Kneeland Street and drive towards Stuart Street. Turn right onto Charles Street South. Charles Street will be one block away.

From 93 South - You can take Exit 26 towards Storrow Drive for North Station. Drive along Storrow Drive Westbound and take the Backbay Exit. After getting off the exit, turn left at light. Then you need to turn right at the first crossing onto Arlington Street. Keep on driving and turn left onto Boylston Street at the second traffic light. Continue to pass through the street, turn left onto Charles Street at second light. Just take a right and enter the garage below the Boston Common Park.

Boston Common Garage offers comparatively cheap and awesome parking rates for customers. Several different rates and passes are available for varying needs.
