This station is the major intermodal transportation hub of United Sates. There are plenty of facilities the station has to offer. The station includes northern terminus of Amtrak's Northeast corridor.

Initially there were four rail road's serving Boston, they were, New York & New England, Old Colony, Boston & Albany and Boston and Province Railroad. These four rail road's made up the South Station. South Central Station was opened on 1889 with a cost of $3.6 million. The station has been renovated from time to time. Many new amenities have been added for the convenience of the passengers.
