Brief Train Travel Guide to Boston North Station: History and Facilities
The Boston North Station is located at the Causeway and Nashua Streets in Boston. This major transportation hub includes water taxi service near Lovejoy Wharf, food courts and comfortable waiting areas, privately operated parking garage and many more. It has a well built terminus for MBTA Commuter Rail, connection with Boston's orange and green line, south terminus etc.
To facilitate inbound cross platform transfers from Green to Orange lines MBTA placed the green line underground in November 2005. Outbound trains for green line docks at the mezzanine level to facilitate the transfer. The year 2006 saw the expansion phase of the station. To improve the cramped areas the south end tracks and platforms were extended.
The station includes lines like Amtrak, MBTA Commuter rail and MBTA Subway. Initially before the opening of the station there were four separate station areas. They were Boston & Maine Railroad, green & Orange line, Boston & Lowell Railroad, Eastern Railroad and Fitchburg Railroad. The original station was broken down to construct tracks connecting to Boston Garden.
The station has many nearby attractions which are visited by large number of tourists. Very close to the North Station you will find Boston's TD Garden. It is home to Boston Bruins hockey team. Then there are lots of sports bars, restaurants, orthodox bars etc in the Causeway Street. The famous building of Thomas P O Neil Jr Federal Building is also there. Then you can find Boston's North End very close to the station.
