American Repertory Theatre
ART or the American Repertory Theatre is located in the Loeb Drama Center which is at the Harvard University in Cambridge. ART is known to be the breeding ground for young artists so they could hone their skills in acting. Also, ART is the home of great directors and it is the resident company for teachers, professional artists and administrators.
It is a not-for-profit theatre and the only one of its kind in the United States. It is considered as one of the few "great" theatres of the United States of America.
It was only in 1980 when this theatre was founded by Mr. Robert Brustein. The American Repertory Theatre is the product of a dispute that broke them off from the Yale Repertory Theatre. It had acting directors such as Robert Woodruff, Gideon Lester and now Ms. Diane Paulus.
The American Repertory Theatre gives you a refreshing play or musical every time. They don't just stick with the classics or the popular plays but they help develop the neglected works as well. They don't just train the young and new artists to become better at their craft but they also teach students through classes for acting, design, directing, playwriting and dramatic literature at its home school, the Harvard University.
After training and having classes for this reason they later developed and founded the Institute for Advanced Theatre Training in 1987. They then trained and develop students to a higher level of acting and special studies.
A play is only as good as the one who directs it and that is the pride of the American Repertory Theatre. They have the best directors in the world such as Neil Bartlett, JoAnne Akalaitis, Anne Bogart, Robert Brustein, Martha Clark, Liz Diamond and a lot more! They are high caliber directors and their plays definitely show that.
From February 14 to March 21, 2009 Endgame is staged here. The show is delightful, energetic, fun and definitely entertaining! From March 28 to April 22 is the time for the Trojan Barbie which is an epic war story.
Trojan Barbie is a more serious play with some drama. It goes back to the time of the Trojan War. Starting May 9 to June 7 is the schedule for the show Romance. It's a romantic comedy that will definitely make the audience burst in laughter.
In the American Repertory Theatre, shows are indeed high class and you'll definitely get your money's worth on your next Boston MASS travel.
Have fun while visiting the city!
